Danny's Story
Danny Plata, emergency room RN, needs our help.
In December 2020, he contracted a life-threatening case of COVID-19 while trying to resuscitate a COVID-19 patient in the emergency room. As Danny continues to struggle with the lasting physical damage and trauma of his ordeal, he's also facing lost wages, mounting medical bills, and the need to support his family while he works to get back on the job.
Though challenging, his ongoing recovery is marked with inspiring moments of strength and survival. After enduring 45 days in a coma, 65 days on life support, and 90 days in the ICU, Danny is deeply committed to achieving a full recovery and eagerly anticipates the day that he'll once again return to the bedside to provide care for his patients.
To support Danny during this time, his colleagues have set up a GoFundMe campaign. In a recent interview with NBC7 in San Diego, Danny shared:
“I’m not used to asking for help. I normally work in an environment where I’m helping people. It’s tough, and it’s very very humbling."
